Leaders in Public Health
Corps members are on call 24 hours a day with presence in 49 of 50 states. As part of their mission, the Corps:
- helps provide healthcare and related services to medically underserved populations: to Americans, American Indians and Alaska Natives, and to other population groups with special needs;
- prevents and controls disease, identifies health hazards in the environment and helps correct them, and promotes healthy lifestyles for the Nation's citizens;
- improves the Nation's mental health;
- ensures that drugs and medical devices are safe and effective, food is safe and wholesome, cosmetics are harmless, and that electronic products do not expose users to dangerous amounts of radiation;
- conducts and supports biomedical, behavioral, and health services research and communicates research results to health professionals and the public
